In 2008, Vontobel Asset Management launched the 'Vontobel Fund - Global Trend Future Resources,' which opens up new investment opportunities for investors as a result of structural changes in supply and demand for natural resources. Fund manager Sreejith Banerji focuses on companies offering innovative technologies for the development of substitute materials and solutions to enhance productivity or to facilitate the more efficient extraction of natural resources. Over the last three years, the fund has achieved an excellent performance of an average of 16.5% p.a.

The increasing demand for many commodities, goods and services is driven by global population growth coupled with rising per capita income. Even basic resources such as foodstuffs and clean drinking water are becoming scarcer. At the same time, the emerging markets are striving to achieve a higher standard of living and are building up their own industries and infrastructures. While the demand for resources is growing, the supply remains finite – creating massive opportunities for companies with more efficient or alternative manufacturing and production processes.

In contrast to many market participants that focus on short-term price movements, fund manager Sreejith Banerji believes it is important to take a longer-term view. In his in-depth analyses, he focuses on undervalued companies and evaluates the potential of their stock based on long-term earnings and cash flow estimates. Banerji's success is underscored by the performance of 'Global Trend Future Resources', which has averaged 16.5% p.a. since its launch. "This means that the fund has outperformed its benchmark, the MSCI World Index TR Net EUR, by 5.2% annually," states Banerji.
