Vontobel doubles donation to ICRC

Vontobel has carried out a company-wide fundraising appeal for the fourth time. Twice as much money was collected in 2018 compared with the prior year. Thanks to this donation, the ICRC can rebuild a school for 500 children in Iraq.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is working to restore schools in Iraq. Vontobel supported this long-term project as a member of the ICRC’s Corporate Support Group. The internal fundraising appeal took place in November and December 2018.
The announcement that Vontobel would double the amount donated by employees proved effective: In 2018, employees donated almost three times as much as in the previous year. This meant that the overall amount was more than double that of 2017.
"With the financial support of our staff, we are ensuring that there is schooling in crisis regions and thereby contributing to the stabilization of these areas," says Herbert Scheidt, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vontobel. "I would like to thank all employees for their commitment and generosity."
Chairman of the Board of Directors Herbert J. Scheidt and board member Maja Baumann took over the patronage for the fundraising appeal.
"Thanks to our mug campaign and numerous orders of Christmas cards, we were more successful than ever," report a delighted Natalie Ernst, Corporate Sustainability Manager and project manager of the initiative, and Christian Schilz, Head of Corporate Responsibility & Sponsoring.
Katharina Ritz, the ICRC Head of Delegation in Iraq, has already thanked Vontobel in a tweet from Baghdad:
In numerous crisis regions, lasting peace is not yet in sight. But however motivating the success of this fundraising appeal may be, Vontobel is determined not to rest on its laurels. Maja Baumann, Member of the Supervisory Board of Vontobel, emphasizes: "This success confirms the importance of our commitment as a member of the ICRC’s Corporate Support Group. I am looking forward to supporting this initiative again in 2019."

Selected Swiss companies have founded the ICRC Corporate Support Group in order to provide long-term support for the ICRC's new tasks. Vontobel has been a member since 2005. As part of this membership, we are launching an internal annual fundraising appeal in the months of November and December in favor of the ICRC.
