Exclusive coverage of the “Watches & Wonders” trade show

Last spring, we partnered with the online watch magazine “WatchAdvisor – Your Time. Our Passion." to sponsor their exclusive coverage of “Watches & Wonders 2021”. It was a celebration of watchmaking excellence, and we provided WatchAdvisor's direct reporting from the fair, along with in-depth industry knowledge in Vontobel's latest "Swiss watch industry outlook" livestream replay.

Our luxury analyst René Weber, who has been with Vontobel for 34 years, presents the "Swiss watch industry outlook", together with his colleague and successor Jean-Philippe Bertschy.

The Swiss watch industry has one of its toughest years behind it. Exports plummeted by 22% due to the global lock-down, similar to the decline seen in 2009 during the financial crisis. Swatch Group in particular has been hit hard, with smartwatches not making it easy for traditional watchmakers. However, Vontobel analysts expect a strong rebound in the second quarter of 2021 (+18%), though not a return to 2019 levels. This rebound will be driven mainly by Mainland China, which became the largest export market for Swiss watches for the first time in 2020.
