The appeal's success was soon apparent: for the first time it was possible to make a donation pledge live at an internal fundraising event. This meant a large amount of "seed capital" was raised for the most important investment of all: in the welfare of children.
Medical upgrade for 35 health centers in Nigeria
Vontobel has again doubled employee donations this year. The donation will enable the ICRC to equip 35 health centers in Nigeria with ALMANACH (Algorithms for the Management of Acute Childhood Illnesses). The digital doctor improves the diagnosis of children under five years of age, suggests the right medication, thereby preventing excessive use of antibiotics. The ICRC developed and implemented ALMANACH together with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH).
Axel Schwarzer, Head of Asset Management, was patron of the internal 2019 fundraising initiative
"There is an immense lack of well-trained health workers in Nigeria. ALMANACH offers simple, fast and safe support. It's what I call digitization at its best," says Axel Schwarzer, Head of Asset Management at Vontobel. He thanks the employees for the largest donation to date.
However, he holds back on the euphoria: "There is still much to be done in terms of the 'S' in 'ESG' (environment, society and governance)." With this, he is highlighting Vontobel's long-term commitment to the ICRC.
Eloi Fillion, the ICRC Head of Delegation in Nigeria, has already thanked Vontobel with a tweet from Adamawa State, Nigeria
Vontobel has been a member of the ICRC Corporate Support Group since 2005
Selected Swiss companies have founded the ICRC Corporate Support Group in order to provide long-term support for the ICRC's new tasks. Vontobel has been a member since 2005. As part of this membership, we are launching an internal annual fundraising appeal in the months of November and December in favor of the ICRC.
