In our digital world, learning doesn’t end with school or university studies – that’s actually where it starts.

Dr. Elisabeth Denison is Partner and Director of Strategy of Deloitte Germany. She is responsible for the company’s strategic positioning and for its development within the context of globalization and digitization. In this video interview, she explains what future challenges employees and companies will face when it comes to education.

As "EMEA Talent Lead", Dr. Denison is responsible for the education and training of 90,000 employees in Europe. Her credo: “It is vital that both employees and employers see digital transformation as a huge opportunity. But in the minds of many people, the changes this will bring have not really been taken on board yet."

"It doesn’t work any more to think that because you’ve graduated from school, you are finished with learning."

Lifelong learning

As she sees "learning for the future", education already starts with appropriate digital teaching aids at school, with revised curricula and meaningful cooperation between private and public institutions. With its objective of preparing young people perfectly for the future, educational policy alone is overwhelmed, she believes. Later, when they have embarked on their working lives, big companies should take on this responsibility.

"Our employees – just like our clients – constantly need to reinvent themselves."

The company as an educational institution

Dr. Denison believes that large international corporations above all have a duty to accept and fulfill their educational mission. First and foremost, their senior managements must be made aware of how important it is for both their corporate culture and competitiveness to provide continuous on-the-job training for their employees.

Who are we? How do we live today? And how will digitization change our lives? How the future will unfold is preoccupying society more than ever, with engineers, doctors, politicians – each one of us, in fact – seeking answers. This conversation with Dr. Elisabeth Denison is one of many contributions that shed light on the theme “Digitized Society” from a new, inspiring perspective. We are publishing them here as part of our series “Impact”.
